A cataract surgery is a kind of surgery which involves the removal of the natural lens of the eye, which has developed an opacification. It is replaced with an intraocular lens (IOL). Two of the most common cataract surgery procedures include phacoemulsification (phaco) and extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE). A machine having an ultrasonic handpiece equipped with a titanium or steel tip is used while performing phacoemulsification. In the process of extracapsular cataract extraction, almost the entire natural lens is removed but the elastic lens capsule is left intact to allow the implantation of an intraocular lens. The ever growing need of advanced technology is the reason that has fueled the research in the field of cataract surgery in recent times. This book explores all the important aspects of cataract surgery in the present day scenario. Doctors, ophthalmologists, researchers and students actively engaged in this field will find this book full of crucial and unexplored concepts.
